Ashford University Recognizes Fall 2012 Campus Graduates
Students receive awards during commencement ceremony

Ashford University celebrated the graduation of 43 of its Clinton campus students with a reception and recognition event on Saturday, Dec. 8. Always a small gathering, the December commencement provides an opportunity for those campus students whose schedule results in a mid-year completion of requirements.

During the recognition ceremony, special student awards were presented to:          

Ashley Streed, Clinton, IA and Philippe Vincent, Princeton, IA, the Business Department’s Scholars Award, given to the highest ranking graduates in business;

Heath Adam Westerkamp, Bettendorf, IA, the Accounting Student Award, sponsored by the Iowa Society of Certified Public Accountants to recognize the top accounting graduate;

Peter W. Tanzillo, Kewanee, IL, the Sister Marilyn Shea Outstanding Disposition Award, which recognizes teacher candidates with outstanding dispositions for teaching, including reflection, professional conduct, respect for diversity, high expectations, respect for others, compassion, advocacy, curiosity, dedication, honesty and fairness;

Nikki Patterson, Maquoketa, IA, the Alex Esquivel Promising Teacher Award, given to a teacher education graduate who shows exceptional potential as an educator;

Abigail Dalen, Eldridge, IA, the James L. Mooney Social Science Award, which recognizes the Social Science graduates with the highest grade point average; and

Ashley Erin Hayes, Nine Mile Falls, WA, the Joan Walsh Richeson Award, given to the liberal arts major who best personifies the values of a liberal arts education.
