On the afternoon of May 17, the 2013 Ashford Padres Scholarship was presented to San Mateo resident Luis Calahorrano in a pre-game ceremony at the San Diego Padres’ home field, Petco Park. The Ashford Padres Scholar will be awarded all course materials, technology fees and tuition necessary to complete his master’s degree. Calahorrano, already a Padres Scholar, expects to use this Ashford University scholarship to earn his Masters in Teaching and Learning with Technology.
“This is such a great opportunity. Feeling that someone else believes I can do this really boosts my self-esteem and confidence,” exclaimed Calahorrano. “The original Padres scholarship has already changed so much in my life, and now, with a scholarship for my master’s – this’ll be amazing. I’m forever grateful.”
“Ashford University is proud to award Luis Calahorrano this year’s Ashford Padres Scholarship,” stated Dr. Richard Pattenaude, president of Ashford University. “Our partnership with the Padres has allowed us to strengthen our support of the educational goals of many worthy students.”
The San Diego Padres has awarded undergrad scholarships since 1995, with almost 200 players contributing to the Padres Scholarship program in that time. More than 150 Padres Scholars are currently enrolled in four-year universities around the country.
