SAN DIEGO, July 2, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- For Jasmine Camille Rogers, it was a rapid rise from an internship to the position of executive director at a non-profit organization. She credits the online education she pursued at Ashford University with propelling her along her chosen career path. Because of her success, Rogers has been named Ashford's Outstanding Alum of the Week.
Rogers believes it was no accident she was promoted from case manager to executive director of the Village of Hope in Salisbury, Md. mere months before graduating with her Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree from Ashford in November 2013. "I attribute it to my growth and development at work as well as my educational experience at Ashford University," she said.
Starting as an intern at the Village of Hope, a non-profit transitional living facility that provides temporary housing for homeless women and children, Rogers cites her job as one of the primary reasons she chose Ashford for her education. "I did not want to relocate, as I was thoroughly enjoying my work experience," she says. "I decided to seek online educational opportunities that would be convenient for my schedule and not require a move."
When the executive director position opened up at Village of Hope in September 2013, the board of directors unanimously approved Rogers' appointment. "I love being able to help individuals in need and assist in working towards reducing homelessness." As the executive director at the facility, she is responsible for managing all programs, services, and facilities in accordance with the Village of Hope's mission, philosophy, policies, and established goals.
In her new role, Rogers is able to utilize knowledge learned during her studies at Ashford, as well as from the life lessons that came with the experience. "It was through Ashford that I learned to put forth my best effort and elaborate in my research. Ashford also empowered me to be productive and vocal about my passions," said Rogers.
Rogers would like to pursue a doctoral degree in human services or organizational leadership in the future. "Ashford University has given me the confidence to pursue my dreams and to take on challenges. It has also changed my views about online learning. If you put forth your best work, online learning can be just as productive as learning in the classroom."
The Ashford University Outstanding Alum of the Week recognition was created to spotlight Ashford success stories and graduates who have used their Ashford education as a springboard to personal and professional achievement.
