Corenna Khieu Named Ashford University's Outstanding Alum of the Month
Two Ashford degrees have allowed Khieu to pursue her dream

SAN DIEGO, Aug. 7, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --Corenna Khieu entered Ashford University with trepidation and some doubts about her academic potential. She left Ashford University with a Bachelor of Arts in Health Care Administration degree, a Master of Public Administration degree, and a surge of confidence that has propelled her toward her dream of being a surgeon. For her accomplishments, Khieu has been named Ashford's Outstanding Alum of the Month.

Khieu admits that she was apprehensive about attending college. "Since I was a homeschooled child, I did not get the traditional experience most people around me had," she said. She initially attended a local community college before she decided to pursue her bachelor's degree at Ashford. After transferring in 60 credits from her community college education, Khieu was on her way to a life-changing experience at Ashford.

"I remember going to college and not feeling very smart," Khieu said. "After going to Ashford, I felt empowered. I was on the Dean's List all four years at Ashford, and that was an achievement I had never experienced before."

A busy wife and mother, Khieu came across Ashford in her search for a flexible online program that could conform to her hectic schedule and give her the tools and support she needed to succeed. "I talked with other schools that offered online degrees, but Ashford beat them all in my book. From the first phone call, I knew Ashford was for me. The staff and counselors were friendly and put my mind at ease. They gave me the support I needed to make the right choice."

After earning her bachelor's degree, Khieu opted to stay at Ashford for her master's degree. "I found my confidence at Ashford," she explained. This newfound confidence has empowered her to enroll as a pre-med student at Clark College. Khieu is also volunteering in the ICU at Peace Health Southwest Medical Center in Vancouver, Wash., and working on a soon-to-be-published book of spiritual poems and prayers.

Khieu hopes to inspire her husband and three children to work hard to reach their goals so they can feel as empowered as she does as an Ashford graduate. "I have more confidence than ever before. I pushed for my dreams and I won each time. I am proud to tell the world that I am a part of Ashford University's alumni family."

The Ashford University Outstanding Alum of the Month recognition was created to spotlight Ashford success stories and graduates who have used their Ashford education as a springboard to personal and professional achievement.
