Ashford University Awards Homefront Heroes Scholarships to Military Spouses in San Diego
Five military spouses receive scholarships to pursue their educational goals

Ashford University has awarded five military spouses Homefront Heroes Scholarships. Dr. Laura Sliwinski, acting executive dean of the College of Health, Human Services, and Sciences at Ashford University, presented the scholarships at Copley Symphony Hall in the Jacobs Music Center during the San Diego Symphony’s Home for the Holidays concert on December 15.

“At Ashford University, we are dedicated to supporting our nation’s military and we feel privileged to be the presenting sponsor of the Home for the Holidays concert,” said Dr. Sliwinski. “These families are worthy of recognition and support, especially the spouses, who serve their country alongside their loved ones in uniform.”

The Homefront Heroes Scholarship recognizes the strength and support military spouses provide our nation’s service members. The scholarship covers tuition, books, and technology fees to help the partners of military men and women pursue their degrees at Ashford University.

The 2016 Homefront Heroes Scholarship recipients are Wencisly Capiral, Jemlyn Gass, Karla Lyle, Breanna Perez, and Quinada Ruffin. The scholarship winners were selected from a pool of applicants who submitted essays explaining how being married to a service member has influenced their education and career goals, and how receiving a scholarship would enhance their future.

Ashford University created the Homefront Heroes Scholarship program six years ago to honor the spouses of American service members. The scholarships recognize the hard work and sacrifices of military spouses and aligns with the University’s giving mission to focus on the areas of education, youth, and the military.
