SAN DIEGO, Sept. 7, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Ashford University presented a $10,000 check to San Diego Unified School District Superintendent Mitzi Merino and Emerson/Bandini Elementary School Principal Juan Romo for SDUSD's Children and Youth in Transition program last week. The check was presented at an assembly at Emerson/Bandini Elementary School, where Ashford and SDUSD officials also handed out backpacks and school supply kits to students as part of the Ashford grant.
Children and Youth in Transition supports the continuity of education of students in transition, including students who are in foster care, experiencing homelessness, military dependents, and refugees.
"It's important that these students have the supplies they need to succeed in school this year," said Dr. Tony Farrell, Ashford University College of Education Executive Dean. "As longstanding supporters of the San Diego Unified School District and its students, we're honored to fulfill this need."
Also present at the ceremony was San Diego City Councilman David Alvarez, who helped hand out backpacks and exhorted students to read every day.
