SAN DIEGO, Nov. 9, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Ashford University's SupportU Program has received the Online Learning Consortium's (OLC) Effective Practice Award, which recognizes effective techniques, strategies, and practices that are shared by members of the OLC community to advance quality and access to online programs. The Student Success Team's SupportU Program consists of Library, Writing Center, and Tutoring Services, bringing a menu of complementary supports to Ashford learners. Among these are 24/7 tutoring in library, writing, and key subject areas.
"Learner Supports When and Where They are Needed" describes the SupportU Program and highlights 24/7 tutoring, which is offered in some of Ashford's most challenging courses, and launched in early 2016. Today, more than 25,000 tutoring sessions have been completed. Courses offering tutoring have shown a reduction in overall drop rate, a reduction in fail rate, and an increase in overall pass rate. Students who participate in tutoring also show improved persistence over their next four courses.
"Tutoring On Demand is just one of many student success strategies we've put into place over the last year to help clear the path toward a degree for our students," said Andrew Shean, Chief Academic Learning Officer for Bridgepoint Education, Ashford University's parent company. "To be recognized by our peers in such a short time is a tremendous accomplishment that reflects the planning and effort that went into the program."
