Degree program will prepare students to work in broad, fast-growing field

SAN DIEGO, Jan. 8, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Ashford University has launched a new Master of Public Health (MPH) degree program. Designed with national standards in mind, the MPH program provides a unique opportunity for students to earn this public health degree in an online environment that meets the needs of their busy schedules. Students in the MPH program will learn how to create, plan, administer, and evaluate public health programs in diverse settings, including research institutions, health care facilities, community organizations, schools, and governmental agencies both large and small.

"Public Health offices exist in every county of the United States and individuals with MPH degrees can not only work within those offices, but also within any number of health venues," said Ashford University Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Chief Academic Officer Dr. Laura Palmer Noone. "With this degree, students will have a degree designation that is known throughout the world and empowers them to help solve the most pressing health challenges facing our society."

A planned, supervised, and evaluated practicum consisting of 90 contact hours at an approved facility is an essential component of the MPH program. The practicum provides students with a unique opportunity to gain professional experience and apply knowledge and skills learned in the classroom to real-world public health settings and real-time public health issues. The goal of the practicum is to provide an opportunity for students to synthesize, integrate, and apply practical skills, knowledge, and training learned through courses, to gain professional experience in a public health work environment, and to work on public health practice projects of particular individual interest.
