The Associate Benevolent Society of Clinton, Iowa was the recipient of $891.00 and nearly 3,600 items for its hygiene bags, thanks to the Ashford University Future Leaders Program (FLP).
The $891.00 will be used by the Benevolent Society to purchase food for its Easter basket program which will provide food for 250-350 families in Clinton County. To collect funds for the project, the group held an ice cream social and sponsored a “dress down day.”
In early March, boxes were placed at Ashford’s Iowa Online Center and Bluff Campus to collect hygiene supplies including deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, toothbrush, toothpaste, disposable razors, soap, combs, diapers, laundry soap and wet wipes. A departmental competition at the Online Center was held to generate additional interest in the project.
After the supplies were collected, FLP members created 107 hygiene bags for the Benevolent Society to distribute to its clients. The non-profit society has provided aid to Clinton area individuals and families for 128 years.
The Future Leaders Program is a training program for Ashford University employees. Each class participates in a community service project.
