Ashford University Assistant Professor and Program Chair Dr. Nils Ohrberg was invited to speak at The Tribes Summit 2017 at the University of Nairobi in Kenya. The summit, which took place on June 29, was in support of unity and peace between the country’s neighboring tribes.
“It was an honor to serve as a guest speaker for The Tribes Summit 2017,” said. Dr. Ohrberg. “What originated from a personal passion and idea, has evolved into an adventure. “The event was a unique opportunity to bridge academics and societal reality to foster awareness and dialogue as to diversity and inclusion, not only within the physical walls and cyber world of Ashford University, but extended across the world.”
Dr. Ohrberg is dedicated to promoting the awareness and significance of diversity in higher education and career preparation. In 2016, he was instrumental in the development of the Forbes School of Business and Technology Center for Diversity Research.
Dr. Ohrberg’s previous work in Kenya and his ongoing efforts to foster diversity and inclusion through the Forbes School of Business and Technology Center for Diversity Research provided him the opportunity to present to the summit attendees in Nairobi. In his presentation, entitled One Heart One Humanity, Dr. Ohrberg shared a message of hope, peace, and unity between Kenya’s 42 tribes. In addition, he was also given the opportunity to participate in the All Tribes Against Tribalism Peace Walk, a community event to demonstrate the value of tribal unity.
The Tribes Summit is a collaborative meeting of Kenyan leaders and officials to encourage non-violence and peaceful partnership between the nation’s tribes during the country’s election period. For further information on the Tribes Summit, visit http://www.thetribessummit.com/.
