Ashford University student David Standley has been announced as one of the winners of a scholarship from the Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society. Standley, who lives in Deatsville, Ala., is a senior pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Homeland Security and Emergency Management at Ashford. As part of the Alpha Sigma Lambda scholarship, Standley will receive $2,500 to help with his educational expenses.

The Alpha Sigma Lambda scholarship was open to any member who has completed 30 semester hours of graded coursework, has achieved a grade point average of at least 3.2, is enrolled in a baccalaureate degree program, and is at least 24 years of age. Students were evaluated based on five criteria: scholarship, leadership, a personal statement, a faculty recommendation, and financial need. Standley was one of 11 finalists to receive scholarships from Alpha Sigma Lambda for the 2015-16 academic year.

Alpha Sigma Lambda is the oldest and largest national honor society for non-traditional students who maintain outstanding scholastic standards and leadership characteristics while handling the additional responsibilities of work and family. Founded in 1946, Alpha Sigma Lambda now has more than 300 active chapters at universities all across the United States.
