As part of its commitment to make higher education more accessible, Ashford University has partnered with StraighterLine and the Alternative Credit Project. Both partnerships are intended to help potential students earn college credits that can be used to complete their degrees at Ashford.
StraighterLine offers online higher education courses in a wide variety of topics that fulfill the general education requirements for bachelor’s degree programs. It is the fastest-growing provider of academic credits and is a founding member of the Alternative Credit Project. Ashford University has an agreement in place to accept StraighterLine courses as transferable credits.
Ashford is also a part of the Alternative Credit Project, which is a joint venture between the American Council on Education and the Gates Foundation to assist adults who are eligible to start or return to college by providing affordable and flexible college solutions. By participating in the Alternative Credit Project, Ashford has agreed to accept credits from a select pool of low-cost or no-cost online courses that have been approved by the Project.
“In many ways, Ashford students are non-traditional college students,” said Dr. Lori Williams, provost at Ashford University. “So many of our students are working adults, have families to support, or are active-duty members of the military. Since our students tend to arrive at Ashford from non-traditional routes, it makes sense that we offer non-traditional methods for our students to accrue credits based on their rich and varied life experiences.”
