Ashford University Partners with KyXy 96.5 to Promote Literacy
San Diego elementary school students will win classroom reading parties

Ashford University, in partnership with radio station KyXy 96.5, is encouraging reading and supporting literacy throughout San Diego with the Ashford University Book Club. For the remainder of the school year, KyXy 96.5 and Ashford University will highlight a new, age-appropriate book each month for students in grades K-5. The book recommendations are provided by the San Diego Council on Literacy in partnership with Words Alive and will be announced on-air on KyXy 96.5 and listed online at KyXy.com.

As an incentive for students to participate, KyXy 96.5 and Ashford University will select one lucky classroom each month to win a reading party hosted by KyXy on-air personality Little Tommy from the Jeff and Jer Showgram. Entries are accepted through the KyXy website. The submission form asks applicants to explain why the students enjoyed the book club selection they read.

“I am proud to be a part of the Ashford University Book Club,” said Little Tommy. “There isn’t anything better than reading to children.”

Entries will be accepted from students, parents, and teachers, with one winner selected at the end of each month. At the reading party, Little Tommy will read an excerpt from the book to the class and lunch will be provided by Wendy’s of San Diego. The winning class will also receive a $100 gift card for their classroom from Ashford University.

“Out of all of the amazing community efforts we partner with as an organization, the Ashford University Book Club is one of my favorites,” said Jennifer Love Bruce, associate vice president of community relations at Bridgepoint Education. “The look on the kids’ faces when they tell us why the book is so important to them and how excited they are to participate in the reading party truly makes this a rewarding event.”
