Ashford University and the San Diego County Taxpayers Association are teaming up to provide three local community college students with an opportunity for a paid internship with the San Diego County Taxpayers Association during the Fall 2015 semester. Interns will gain valuable hands-on experience in the fields of public policy and finance. They will also receive a $1,000 stipend and a $2,500 scholarship to attend Ashford University.

During the internship, students will perform research and in-depth analysis with the direct support of public policy professionals. They will track revenue, expenditures, and debt to provide a fiscal snapshot of all 18 cities in San Diego County. Interns will also gain experience with tasks such as interviewing city staff, submitting Public Records Act requests, and writing reports.

Successful candidates for the internship will be:

• Able to conduct independent research
• Able to write clearly and concisely
• Interested in city and county government
• Interested in the policy-making process
• Able to make a commitment of 10 hours per week
• Able to attend one meeting per week at the San Diego Taxpayers Educational Foundation’s offices
