Forbes School of Business® at Ashford University Releases "Business Acumen" Video from the 2015 Forbes Women's Summit
Leaders share thoughts on sharpening business instincts and attracting people to a vision

The Forbes School of Business at Ashford University today released the latest title in its series of videos from the 2015 Forbes Women’s Summit. The new video, titled “Business Acumen,” can be viewed online at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AUuVTzIgqQw.

The “Business Acumen” video features interviews with Ramona Pierson, founder of Declara; Dr. Risa Lavizzo-Mourey, president and CEO of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation; and Melanne Verveer, U.S. ambassador. They give advice about sharpening business instincts and attracting people to a vision.

“So many times we look to others when we should look inside first and go ‘what is my vision?’” Declara founder Ramona Pierson said in the video. “I think that what people then do is they grow their own power of one and when they do that then they’re able to really go out and create a community around them.”

The topics of creating a vision and uniting people behind that vision resonated with faculty members at the Forbes School of Business at Ashford University.

“Someone with a vision is the best motivator by ‘walking the talk,’” said Dr. Diane Hamilton, program chair at the Forbes School of Business. “In the various leadership positions I have held in my career, I have found a winning formula to be linking my talk and my walk. My teams were motivated when they saw that I was a team player, and that there was a connection with what I said or directed them to do and what I would do in action.”

“I also found it important as a leader to break down elements of the vision so those individuals could understand what it meant to them,” Dr. Hamilton added. “This assists others in understanding the vision and then personalizing their support of the vision.”

The Forbes Women’s Summit took place on June 10, 2015, in New York City. It brought together 250 leaders from the worlds of business, philanthropy, education, media, and entertainment. As the official education partner for the summit, the Forbes School of Business at Ashford University had unique access to interview the leaders who participated in the event and gain their insight on several key issues. Those interviews have been compiled into a series of videos that the Forbes School of Business will continue to release over the next three weeks.
