Ashford University Spends Summer Break Improving Facilities at Its Clinton, Iowa Campus
Students returning to campus will experience a new building and renovated facilities

August 28, 2013 – While Ashford University students enjoyed their summer vacations, construction crews took over the University’s Clinton, Iowa campus. Throughout the summer, Ashford has been completing a series of capital projects designed to improve the University’s facilities for students, faculty, and staff.

“It’s been a busy summer at Ashford,” said John Ballheim, university vice president and campus director. “We are continuing to make capital improvements that will enhance our students’ experience here.”

At the top of the list of projects was the construction of a multi-purpose building at Ashford’s South Campus complex. In 2010, Ashford purchased the former Clinton Country Club property and built an artificial turf soccer field and outdoor all-weather track at the site. The new building, scheduled to be completed in mid-September, will contain athletic locker rooms, public restrooms, an athletic training room, a concessions facility, and an area to sell Ashford merchandise.

“This building will be a great addition to our South Campus facilities,” said Meg Schebler, director of athletics at Ashford. “For the past three years, teams had to use locker rooms at Ashford’s main campus before and after competitions. The new building adds important and needed facilities to our athletic facilities.”

At Ashford’s Bluff campus, 39 bathrooms in Durham Hall, one of three campus residence halls, were remodeled to add new showers, sinks, and toilets. The remaining Durham bathrooms will be remodeled next summer.

In Regis Hall, the previously unused first floor was renovated to accommodate the following offices:

  • Business Technology Services (BTS), including the Student Information Technology (IT) Help Desk
  • Facilities, including a new Facilities Help Desk
  • Human Resources
  • Athletic coaching staff, including baseball, softball, cross country, track and field, soccer, bowling, golf, and tennis

Renovation projects were completed throughout St. Clare Hall, the original campus building that dates back more than 100 years. On the fifth floor, the former BTS offices were converted into two new classrooms with the latest technology. The former BTS Student IT Help Desk on the second floor now houses Campus Safety (security).

Also on the second floor, the former Business Office was converted into two new conference rooms. The Business Office operations moved to renovated space on the same floor. On the first floor, the former Human Resources offices were converted into a new classroom and the former Facilities and Campus Safety offices are the new home for the University’s Talent Acquisition department.

Other projects at the Bluff campus include paving the Regis Hall parking lot and the installation of new exterior lighting and additional security cameras.
