Forbes School of Business Presents "Creating Change" Video
Leaders from the 2015 Forbes Women's Summit share their thoughts on leading change within organizations

The 2015 Forbes Women’s Summit brought together 250 leaders from the worlds of business, philanthropy, education, media, and entertainment. As the official education partner for the summit, the Forbes School of Business at Ashford University had unique access to interview the leaders who participated in the event and gain their insight on several key issues. Those interviews have been compiled into a series of videos that will be rolled out over the course of the next six weeks. The first video, titled “Creating Change,” debuted today. It can be viewed at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3beDImx9SGI.

The “Creating Change” video features interviews with Alexandra Gleysteen, senior producer at CBS News; Ramona Pierson, founder of Declara; Melanne Verveer, U.S. ambassador; and Dr. Risa Lavizzo-Mourey, president and CEO of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. They all share their thoughts about transforming organizations from within and what kind of people can lead the charge.

“We all know people who just wring their hands and say ‘woe, it’s the state of the world – woe is us.’ But some people – other people – dream and see things as they could be and say ‘why not?’” said Verveer in the video. “And I would rather by a ‘why not’ person.”

The theme of creating change within organizations resonated with faculty members at the Forbes School of Business.

“I have taught some courses where students have to ignite change within an organization,” said Dr. Diane Hamilton, program chair at the Forbes School of Business. “I do not believe change has to come from the CEO level. Many companies have embraced entrepreneurial thinking by creating contests and awarding prizes for implemented ideas. I spoke about this idea at the recent Forbes Mentor Week. I think we will see more reliance on entrepreneur-minded employees for igniting change in the future workplace.”

The Forbes Women’s Summit took place on June 10, 2015, in New York City. It united leaders from a wide variety of businesses with the mission of harnessing the power and intellect of this multi-generational gathering to address the world’s most intractable issues.
