Dr. Albert Karnig has accepted a position on the Board of Trustees for Ashford University. His term began March 14, 2014.

Dr. Karnig’s career includes more than 15 years of experience in higher education. From 1997 to 2012, he served as the president of California State University, San Bernardino. During his time as president, Dr. Karnig helped the University achieve major milestones in enrollment, diversity of faculty and students, grant and contract funding, fundraising, and international program development. The University was also honored by University Business Magazine as one of only nine U.S. universities identified as a “Model of Efficiency” for adopting innovative ways to streamline operations, save resources, and improve the student experience.

“Dr. Karnig will be an outstanding addition to the Ashford University Board of Trustees,” said Dr. Richard Pattenaude, Ashford University president and CEO. “His extensive experience in higher education will benefit the Board, the University, and our students.”

Dr. Karnig currently sits on the Board of Directors for several organizations, including the California University of Science and Medicine, the California Council on Economic Education, the KVCR Public Radio and Television Educational Foundation, and the San Bernardino County Alliance for Education. Dr. Karnig earned his bachelor’s degree from Augustana College, and his M.S. and Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Illinois.
