Ashford University Awards Two Scholarships through the Promises2Kids Guardian Scholars Program

Promises2Kids’ Guardian Scholars Program has selected two scholarship winners to attend Ashford University – one on campus, and the other online. The recipients, Clifton Hidds-Narcisse of San Diego, Calif. and Holly Spriggs of Vista, Calif. were chosen from among several applicants for the opportunity to receive the Ashford University scholarship, which is provided through Ashford’s sponsorship of Promises2Kids. The organizations’ program functions to award scholarship opportunities to select fostered youth in order to serve the organization’s mission of providing children and adolescence with brighter futures.

Promises2Kids is a non-profit organization whose programs and services have supported a wide array of needs to San Diego youth for more than 30 years. The foundation has worked to guide foster teens, encouraging them to pursue higher education through community college, trade school, or university.

Both Hidds-Narcisse and Spriggs applied for the scholarship and were selected based on their academic transcripts and an essay expressing their educational goals, career aspirations, and their desire to attend Ashford. In order to stay eligible for the scholarship, recipients must maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA, enroll in a minimum of 12 semester units/16 quarter units of coursework, fully participate in all aspects of the program, and agree to staff monitoring of academic performance.

“I was really excited when I received the news about the Ashford scholarship. I always knew the next step in my life was to finish school and attend a university but I always wondered how I would financially afford it,” said Hidds-Narcisse, recipient of the campus scholarship. “With the help of Promises2Kids and Ashford University, I’ve been blessed with the opportunity to finish my education, improve myself, and better my life.”

Spriggs, the recipient of the online scholarship, will be pursuing her master’s degree. “Thank you Ashford for providing me with a full-ride scholarship to pursue my MBA,” said Spriggs. “This program is giving me the opportunity to pursue my graduate degree with the flexibility and accessibility needed to balance my family, career and education.”

Promises2Kids was founded with the goal to prevent child abuse in San Diego. The foundation has led the fight against child abuse and neglect throughout the county of San Diego. Promises2Kids continues to offer a wide array of support, recourses, and programs, and collaborates with many community partners in order to advance its mission of building a greater and more positive future for foster youth.
