Holiday Concerts at Ashford University
Concert Choir and Wind ensemble plan musical event

Ashford University will help the community get into the holiday spirit when it presents a concert double-header on Sunday, Dec. 8.

At 2 p.m., the Ashford Concert Choir will kick off the musical extravaganza with its concert of music for the Christmas season. “We’re following a kind of ‘Lessons and Carols’ format, with selections that highlight the various stages of the Christmas story, from Prophecy to Annunciation to Journey to Bethlehem to Birth to Shepherds to Wise Men,” said Dr. Rob Engelson, director. “We’re also doing two selections by that infamous ‘crack in the dam of culture,’ P.D.Q. Bach.”

The musical afternoon continues at approximately 3:15 p.m. when Ashford’s Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Steve Little, will perform “First Suite in E-flat for Military Band” by Gustav Holst; “Light Cavalry Overture” by von Suppe and four arrangements of traditional and familiar carols for the season of Christmas, in addition to “General Mascardo's Philippine March.”

Both concerts will be held in room C3600, located on the third floor of St. Clare Hall on Ashford’s Clinton, Iowa campus. This event is free and open to the public.
