Ashford University and Cox Communications Award Military Spouses Homefront Heroes Scholarships
Five military spouses receive education scholarships at Home for the Holidays concert

Ashford University, in partnership with Cox Communications, has awarded Homefront Heroes Scholarships to five military spouses in San Diego County.  Dr. Richard Pattenaude, Ashford University's president and chief executive officer, presented the scholarships at the Jacobs Music Center at Copley Symphony Hall during the Home for the Holidays concert on December 19.

Ashford University understands the importance of recognizing the selfless sacrifices military spouses make in supporting American men and women in uniform," said Dr. Pattenaude.  "I had the distinct pleasure and honor of presenting the scholarships to some very deserving individuals."

The Homefront Heroes Scholarship recognizes the strength and support military spouses provide our nation's service members.  The scholarship covers tuition and books to help partners of military men and women complete their education at Ashford University.

The 2013 Homefront Heroes scholarship recipients are Paige Solis, Erin Beeman, Tracy Bernal, Amber Engle, and Monique Morales.  The scholarship winners were selected from a pool of applicants who each submitted an essay on being "married to the military" and how the scholarship would enhance their future.

"I am so thankful and blessed to be awarded this opportunity," said Beeman.  "With this scholarship, I am going to pursue a bachelor's degree in psychology to help ensure a strong future for my family as well as to educate and aid fellow military families through counseling.  In the future, I plan to support and counsel youth through the hardships, deployments, and unique dynamics of being part of a military family."

Ashford University created the Homefront Heroes Scholarship program four years ago to honor the spouses of American service members.  The scholarships recognize the hard work and sacrifices of military spouses who serve their country alongside their loved ones in uniform.  The program aligns with the University's giving mission to focus on the areas of education, youth, and the military.
