On March 13, Ashford University celebrated women in the military by sponsoring the “Honoring All Military Women: Past – Present – Future” event in Fairfield, Calif. at the Yountville Veterans Home.

“Honoring All Military Women: Past – Present – Future” celebrates and recognizes the contributions of female service members. The event largely focuses on increasing awareness of VA benefits and works to inform attendees about the advantages available for female veterans. 

All women who are serving or have served in any branch of the military were invited to participate in this free event. Open to the general public, as well, approximately 60 women were in attendance along with 20 service providers. Activities included sharing and increasing awareness of the most current information on military benefits, health and wellness services, networking, and resources for employment opportunities. 

In addition to information assistance, the event also offered a complimentary lunch, a day of pampering, and the chance to meet women veterans of all ages and branches of service. There was an area for veterans to exhibit their personal artwork, and participants also took the opportunity to bring photos and memorabilia of their military careers to share with others.

“It was so wonderful to sit and listen to military stories of the past from so many women veterans,” said Julie Buchmiller, Ashford University’s Director of Veterans Relations and Outreach. “It is important for Ashford to attend events like this because it allows us the opportunity to stay engaged with veterans in our community, and it keeps us informed of current veteran issues and topics.”
