Ashford University Will Provide School Supplies to Hundreds of Students at Horton Elementary School

As part of its continuing partnership with the San Diego Unified School District, Ashford University will present a check donation in the amount of $10,000 to the District’s Office of Children and Youth in Transition (CYT). Ashford's generous grant was used to purchase backpacks and school supplies for the students at Horton Elementary School in San Diego. Dr. Tony Farrell, Executive Dean of Ashford’s College of Education, will represent Ashford at the check presentation ceremony at Horton on Monday, Sept. 26. San Diego City Councilmember Myrtle Cole, representing District Four, and Dr. Sharon Whitehurst-Payne, member of the Board of Education, are also scheduled to take part in the ceremony.

“Ashford has been a long-standing supporter of the San Diego Unified School District and believes in enriching the lives of students through education,” said Dr. Farrell. “We are honored to be able to present a generous grant to students of Horton Elementary.”

CYT supports the continuity of education for students in transition, including students in foster care, students experiencing homelessness, students who are military dependents, and students who are refugees. The office serves more than 19,000 students each year, accounting for more than 14 percent of the total population of the entire San Diego Unified School District.
