Ashford University and the San Diego Padres Team Up to Support San Diego Libraries with Padres Reading Corner
Padres first baseman Yonder Alonso read two books to children during story time

Representatives of Ashford University joined San Diego Padres first baseman Yonder Alonso at the Imperial Beach Library Tuesday morning, presenting a combined $1,000 gift from the two organizations to the San Diego County Library system. Alonso sat with the group of children and entertained them by reading two books during story time. He also took photos with the children and signed autographs.

“Improving the lives of America’s youth is at the core of our philosophy,” said Dr. Elizabeth Tice, president of Ashford University. “We welcome the opportunity to join the Padres in sponsoring our local libraries and, in turn, supporting and educating children in our community.”

The support provided by Ashford University and the Padres to San Diego County libraries will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the County of San Diego’s matching funds program. All money gifted will help expand and maintain the library system’s selection of books and materials.
