Representatives from Ashford University and the San Diego Padres baseball team presented a combined $1,000 gift to the San Diego County Library system at the Otay Mesa-Nestor Library on Friday, September 14. San Diego baseball star Yasmani Grandal sat with a group of children and entertained them by reading two books during the library’s story time. He also took photos with the children and signed autographs.
“Providing educational opportunities is at the core of Ashford’s philosophy,” said Dr. Elizabeth Tice, president of Ashford University. “We welcome the opportunity to join the Padres in sponsoring local libraries and, in turn, supporting and educating children.”
The financial support provided by Ashford University and the Padres to San Diego County libraries will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the County of San Diego’s matching funds program. All money gifted will help to expand and maintain the library system’s selection of books and materials.
