Six Ashford employees and the son of an Ashford employee undertook a unique makeover during Ashford University’s second annual St. Baldrick’s Foundation fundraising event on March 15. Five of them had their heads shaved, while the other two received closed cropped cuts.
The St. Baldrick's Foundation is a group that raises money for children’s cancer research. Individuals volunteer to raise money for this cause and then get their heads shaved to support children who have cancer.
This year Ashford exceeded its donation goal of $2,000.00 by raising $2,500.00. Of that amount, $1,717.00 was raised by the participants’ online pledges, and a “dress down day” event collected another $320.00. On the day of the event, Amber Cook challenged the crowd to raise $400.00 and then she would have her hair cut; that challenge raised $463.00.
Shelly Mohr, vice president of the Iowa Online Center, told her employees that if they raise $4,000.00 for St. Baldrick’s in 2014, she will be among the employees to face the clippers.
