An Ashford University student and two Ashford employees received recognition awards during a special ceremony held at the University’s Clinton campus on January 9.
Ben Headlee, who graduated from the University in December, received the Ashford CHAMPion Student Award for the fourth quarter of 2014. The award is presented to students who uphold the values of integrity, fairness, respect, responsibility, and community. Headlee’s nominator said, “Ben has been intensively involved in campus life all his years at Ashford. He founded the Nerf Club and has led it. He has been one of the leading lights in the Fine Arts Club. He has participated widely in campus activities and organizations. He always has a one-line joke at the ready as entrée to interactions with you. In sum, he has contributed both by his personality and his activities to the campus culture, enhancing life for all of us.” Headlee is from Elizabeth, Ill.
Assistant Coach Sheena James and Ameriserve employee Dolores Ruchotzke were recipients of the AU Gold Standard Award for the fourth quarter of 2014. The award is given to employees at Ashford’s Clinton campus who have gone above and beyond for a student, co-worker, or Ashford University as a whole.
James’ nominator said, “With the departure of our head cross country and track and field coach this fall, Sheena stepped up to fill the void and is doing an outstanding job. (We) appreciate her efforts and dedication.”
Ruchotzke works for Ameriserve, Ashford’s food service vendor. “She is always willing to help the students and accommodate their needs,” her nominator said. Along with being kind, she also is extremely hard-working. She never fails to go the extra mile to make sure all her work is done to the best extent that it can be. She is helpful, kind, and very good at what she does.”
Ashford employees and student can submit nominations for the quarterly awards. The winners are selected by a special committee.
