A new group of students was inducted into Alpha Sigma Lambda, a national honor society for students in continuing education, at Ashford University on Sunday, March 28.
Alpha Sigma Lambda was founded in 1945 to honor adult students who, while handling their life responsibilities, achieve and maintain high scholastic standards. Alpha Sigma Lambda is not only the oldest, but also the largest, chapter-based honor society for full- and part-time students. There are more than 300 chartered chapters of ASL throughout the United States. The Alpha Lambda chapter of Ashford University was established on April 9, 2007.
To attain membership in the Alpha Lambda chapter, a student must be seeking his or her first Bachelor's degree, be in the highest 20 percent of students, based upon GPA, and have completed a minimum of 24 credits at Ashford University and a minimum of 12 credits of liberal arts coursework.
Inducted into the honor society were the following students who are enrolled in Ashford’s ASPIRE accelerated education program: Mary Ambrosy, Maquoketa, IA; Joel Atkinson, Clinton, IA; Rachael Delp, Mount Carroll, IL; Jason George, Clinton, IA;
Evangeline Lindstrom, Pleasant Valley, IA; Jaime Naughton, Clinton; Jeff Raab, Fulton, IL; Michael Sellers, Moline, IL and Andrea Troxel, Clinton, IA.
ASPIRE students joining the organization via online include Jenissa Campbell, Thomson, IL; Shelly Mensinger, Camanche, IA and Stephany Wulf, Clinton, IA.
The 2010 honor inductees into Alpha Sigma Lambda were Cindy Combs, Director, Center for External Studies; Dr. Cynthia Martinek, Associate Dean of the College of Education and Dr. James Jeremiah, Vice President of Academic Affairs.
