Ashford University is very pleased to announce that Peter J. Negroni, a senior vice president of Relationship Development at the College Board, has been appointed to its Board of Trustees.                                                           

The College Board, a not-for-profit examination board manages many different standardized tests, including the SAT which is widely used for admission to universities in the United States. Mr. Negroni manages all of the board’s regional offices and is responsible for sales and services of all College Board programs in K–12 and higher education. Additionally, he oversees the international services provided from the New York office, as well as the Chinese Language and Culture Initiatives.

A career educator with more than 30 years of experience as a teacher and administrator, Negroni joined the College Board in June 2000 as vice president for Teaching and Learning. Most recently, Negroni served as senior vice president of K–12 Education from 2001 to 2006 and was responsible for all operations and product development for multiple College Board programs, including the Advanced Placement Program^® (AP^®), College Planning Services (CollegeEd^® and MyRoad™), the PSAT/NMSQT^® program, the Professional Development program and Services for Students with Disabilities, and SpringBoard^®.

Negroni began his career in education as a New York City teacher before moving into administrative roles, including that of principal and superintendent. He capped his time with the New York City school system with a 10-year stint as a community school district superintendent, for which he received recognition for his work in school reform and his longevity as an urban school superintendent. After this, Negroni spent two years as executive director of the Educational Excellence Committee, an independent reform agency in North Carolina. In 1989, he became superintendent of the Springfield (Mass.) public school system, serving until he retired in June 2000.

A published writer, Negroni has penned several articles about education reform. His article “A Radical Role for Superintendents” was published in the September 2000 issue of the School Administrator, and he wrote “Another Teacher Professional Development Day” for the Journal of the National Staff Development Council. He also contributed the chapter Lone Ranger to Lead Learner to “Schools That Learn,” edited by Peter Senge.

Negroni earned a bachelor’s degree from Iona College in New Rochelle, N.Y., a sixth-year certificate in student administration from City College of New York and a doctorate from Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck, N.J.
