As part of the Over the Edge for Kids Included Together (K.I.T.) fundraiser on Saturday, Nov. 6, Dr. Jane McAuliffe, president of Ashford University, will join dozens of adventurous San Diegans at the top of the Manchester Grand Hyatt’s Harbor Tower.
The Manchester’s twin towers are the tallest waterfront buildings on the west coast. Mountaineering from the top of the southernmost 33-story Hyatt tower, Over the Edge participants take the hard way back to the lobby. The 10-minute roped rappel down 357 feet, with an excellent view of downtown San Diego, ends at a poolside gathering on the Hyatt’s patio.
Kids Included Together is a local nonprofit that supports recreation and after-school programs for children. The San Diego-based organization trains community and neighborhood youth organizations to better serve every child in their care, including support for disabled children. Ashford’s parent company, Bridgepoint Education, is a proud sponsor of this year’s second-annual K.I.T. Over the Edge event.
“The Over the Edge fundraiser provides a wonderful benefit to Kids Included Together – last year the event raised $50,000,” stated Dr. McAuliffe. “In addition to raising funds to support youth organizations and disabled children through San Diego’s K.I.T., Over the Edge gives rappelling enthusiasts and local adventurers the opportunity to safely jump off a 33-story building.”
Two other Bridgepoint Education in-house adventurers will join Dr. McAuliffe and take their own runs down the wall, including Sheri Jones, vice president of Bridgepoint Education’s student services and Kristy Andersen, director of student services for Bridgepoint’s University of the Rockies. Each participant in Over the Edge for K.I.T. raised or donated a minimum of $1,000 to the Kids Included Together cause.
