On Saturday, Nov. 13, from 9-11 a.m., Ashford University employees and students will participate in a hands-on “Good Neighbor” project. The task?  Collecting trash in the neighborhoods surrounding the Bluff campus.  

“Ashford University continually emphasizes the importance of community service to our students, faculty and staff,” said John Ballheim, vice president and campus director. “Community service is part of the curriculum of some of our courses and our athletic teams and student organizations regularly participate in projects that benefit the community.”  

Recently, Ballheim noted, the men’s soccer team helped install the roof on a Habitat for Humanity home and students in “Freshman Experience” classes participated in the Mardi Gras parade with the Big Brothers/Big Sisters. The frosh also had a game night at the Canticle and will play bingo at the Alverno.

All additional and interested employee and student participants in the Nov. 13 cleanup project should meet in the St. Francis Gymnasium at 8:45 a.m. for refreshments, instructions and to gather supplies. Door prizes will be awarded and a light lunch will be provided following the day’s trash collecting activities.
