Ashford University (AU) is pleased to announce the hiring of Ben Schlesselman as Sports Information Director. As of March 16, Schlesselman reports to AU’s athletics director and oversees the publicity efforts for Ashford’s 13 intercollegiate sports teams.
Prior to joining Ashford, Schlesselman served as the Media Relations Coordinator for the LPGA’s Duramed FUTURES Tour, the “Developmental Tour of the LPGA,” in Daytona Beach, Fla.
A native of Freeport, IL, he worked for a year in Gainesville, FL, with the Florida Gators sports information department, assisting with members from the 2008 BCS National Championship football team. Schlesselman spent his undergraduate years with the Iowa State University athletics media relations staff as the primary wrestling contact.
He also served as a sports information director for the Alaska Baseball League in the summer of 2006, a year that saw eventual Major League Baseball first-round draft picks Beau Mills (Cleveland), Jason Castro (Houston), Ike Davis (New York Mets) and Casey Weathers (Colorado) pass through.
Schlesselman graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism and Mass Communications from Iowa State in 2007.
Athletics Director Meg Schebler is pleased to have Schlesselman join the staff. She said, “Ben is a perfect fit for us. He’s got great experience and is motivated to take the area of sports information to the next level. With a new athletics website in the works, he’s already hit the ground running and we are thrilled to have him on board.”
