Photography, Student Artwork on Display in Ashford University Gallery
New Exhibits at Ashford University Art Gallery

 

The photography of Larry Mendenhall from Altoona, Iowa will be on display in Ashford University’s Cortona Art Gallery March 21-April 1 with an artist’s reception planned for Thursday, March 24, from 4-6 p.m. in the gallery. 

Mendenhall plans to visit the Ashford University campus Tuesday-Thursday, March 22-24, to make presentations to two photography classes and two art classes. In addition, he will lead an informative discussion of his photographic vision and his techniques for producing vivid landscape images on Wednesday, March 23 from 7-8:30 p.m. in Room A555 of St. Clare Hall on the Ashford campus. There will be time for questions, refreshments and a visit to the gallery exhibit.  This presentation is open to the public.

Ashford’s art gallery will also host the university’s annual juried student and senior show April 25-May 1, with a reception scheduled for Friday, April 29 from 4-6 p.m. The show will include artwork from Ashford students and will feature the work of four graduating seniors – Matt Lindstrom, Morrison, IL; Brenda Linville, Clinton IA; Gwen Offerman, Earlville IA and Ann Slavin, Morrison, IL. 

The Cortona Art Gallery is located on the second floor of Ashford University’s Clare Hall at 400 North Bluff Boulevard in Clinton. The Gallery is named for Sister Cortona Phelan, OSF, former president of Mount St. Clare College (MSC) and former president of the Sisters of St. Francis.  For many years, Sister Cortona influenced the quality of education at the college through her teaching of American history and her love of the arts.  She also served as MSC Academy principal and as dean of students at the college.
