Ashford University’s SEEN and Women of Color student organizations will sponsor a presentation of the play “The Vagina Monologues” on Saturday, Feb. 19, at 7 p.m. in Mullany Theater on Ashford’s Clinton campus.
“The title catches one’s attention, but, looking beyond a ‘shocking’ phrase, the play is a meaningful discussion of various women’s experiences,” said Alyssa Oltmanns, SEEN advisor. She said author Eve Ensler interviewed 200 women regarding their views and history with sex, relationships, identity and violence.
“Inspired, Ensler transformed these women’s stories into monologues—some hysterical, some heartbreaking. The end product, ‘The Vagina Monologues,’ has been adopted as a fundraiser for the campaign known as V-Day, a global activist movement to stop violence against women and girls – to end such brutalities as rape, battery, incest, female genital mutilation and sex slavery,” Oltmanns said.
Ashford students will be admitted to the play for free and non-students can buy tickets for $5 at the door. Proceeds will go to the Clinton YWCA Women’s Resource Center.
