Dr. William “Bill” J. Duey, Chairman of the Human Performance Department at Concordia University of River Forest, IL, will give a lecture titled “Health…A Strategic Business Asset?” at Ashford University on Thursday, March 16.  

The lecture, part of Ashford’s Sister Cortona Phelan Lecture Series, will be presented at 7 p.m. in the Ashford Chapel on the third floor of St. Clare Hall.

Duey is a popular speaker on health issues that relate to business productivity. He has lectured on several Midwest college campuses and at conferences for higher education and business.  

During the lecture he will discuss how companies can benefit their businesses by learning to value their employees by taking interest in their general health. “As the health of the nation continues to decline and healthcare costs continue to rise, employers are beginning to view human capital as a strategic business asset,” Duey said.  “Some companies view their physical assets as the deliverer of productivity and profits, while other companies see human capital as the more profitable element. Effective work site wellness programs could assist in increasing any company’s bottom line if we work step by step and hand in hand.”

Duey’s 60-70 minute lecture followed by a 20-30 minute question and answer session is targeted towards employers and employees, students preparing for the workforce, instructors, and administrators of higher education.

The Cortona Lecture Series is named in honor of Sister Cortona Phelan, a visionary at Mount St. Clare College. She served as both president of the College and as president of the Sisters of Saint Francis.
