Four Lucky Graduates Receive Scholarships to Attend Commencement
Ashford University to cover travel costs for spring ceremony

Ashford University is recognizing the achievements of an online graduate from each of the University’s four colleges by sending them to the upcoming commencement ceremony to be held April 28 and 29, 2012.

The recipients of the Spring 2012 Commencement Scholarship, which covers the student’s expenses for airfare, lodging and car rental, are College of Business and Professional Studies graduate Judy Jones; College of Health, Human Services and Science graduate Pearl Durand; College of Liberal Arts graduate Kirsten Soler; and College of Education graduate Rickie Rhoda.

“The scholarships are a great opportunity for students who otherwise may not have been able to attend commencement due to travel costs,” Dr. Elizabeth Tice, president of Ashford University, said. “At Ashford University, we are committed to quality and excellence, and this is our way of honoring the hard work and dedication of high- achieving students.”

Students with a grade point average of 3.85 and higher were eligible for the Commencement Scholarship. Each applicant was required to answer questions about their educational and career goals, and why Ashford was the best place to achieve those goals. They were also asked to describe their experience at Ashford as a student or as a community leader. Each student’s application for the scholarship was presented via a video hosting service such as YouTube.
