Ashford University and Cox Communications Award Military Spouses Homefront Heroes Scholarships during Holiday Bowl
Five military spouses receive education scholarships covering tuition and books

Ashford University, in collaboration with Cox Communications, has awarded five military spouses Homefront Heroes Scholarships. The scholarships were presented on the field at San Diego’s Qualcomm Stadium by Dr. Elizabeth Tice, Ashford University’s executive vice president and chief academic officer, during the Bridgepoint Education Holiday Bowl on December 27.

“It was an honor to present this award to five very deserving individuals,” said Dr. Tice.  “Ashford University is dedicated to educating our nation and understands the importance of recognizing the selfless sacrifices military spouses make in supporting America’s men and women in uniform.”

The Homefront Heroes Scholarship recognizes the strength and support military spouses provide our nation’s service members. The scholarship covers tuition and books to help partners of military men and women complete their education at Ashford University.

The 2012 Homefront Heroes scholarship recipients are: Tiffany Egan, Oceanside; Jamicia Jones, Murrieta; Jill Johnson, San Diego; Samantha Kate Siaw, Temecula; and Shannon Reece from San Diego. The scholarship winners were selected from a pool of applicants who each submitted an essay on being “married to the military” and how the scholarship would enhance their future.

“I feel so incredibly blessed and grateful to be afforded this opportunity,” said Siaw. “I am planning to complete my bachelor’s degree in law enforcement administration to become a deputy sheriff and give back to the community through policing.”

Ashford University created the Homefront Heroes Scholarship program as a salute to the spouses of American service members. The program aligns with the University’s giving mission to focus on the areas of education, youth and the military.
