Ashford University Phi Beta Lambda Chapter Receives Awards at Iowa Leadership Conference
Students bring home multiple group and individual honors from conference competitions
Ashford University students and advisors who attended the Spring Iowa Phi Beta Lambda Leadership Conference.

The Ashford Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) Chapter received several awards at the Spring Iowa Leadership Conference held April 11-12 at Upper Iowa University in Fayette. Recognitions included first place for largest local chapter in Iowa with 40 members, second place for largest percentage increase in local chapter membership (17% increase), and third place for conference sponsors ($225.00).

With 135 points, Ashford’s PBL chapter took first place in the weekend’s overall competition. Points are earned according to the placement in each event plus special recognition items. Last year Ashford finished in fifth place with 84 points.

Ashford PBL members brought home honors in many of the conference’s individual competitions, including eight first places; 10 second places; and 20 combined third, fourth, and fifth places. “This is far and away the best that Ashford has ever done at State PBL Contest,” said David Ward, Ashford associate professor and one of the organization’s advisors.

Other schools competing at the spring conference were University of Minnesota, Dakota State University, Upper Iowa University, Des Moines Area Community College-Boone, Des Moines Area Community College-Des Moines, Loras College, University of Iowa, AIB College of Business, and Wartburg College.
