Ashford University Adds Sociology and Child Development Minors and Specializations to Academic Offerings
PRNewswire
CLINTON, Iowa

CLINTON, Iowa, March 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Ashford University (AU) has announced the introduction of sociology and child development minors and specializations through AU's College of Social Science and College of Education. These additions are part of the university's plan to increase study options and professional opportunities for its undergraduate students.

"A minor in sociology provides greater opportunity to students in all disciplines for employment," said James Jeremiah, director of academic operations and curriculum at AU. "The ability to understand and relate to people in areas of society enhances students' qualifications and increases their ability to communicate with the ever-increasing diversity. This minor offers students a greater opportunity for intellectual growth, and helps students to understand the concept and need for life-long learning."

The new six class/three unit minor is currently being offered to all online, undergraduate students enrolled at AU - specifically, those interested in enhancing social science programs such as psychology, political science, history, liberal arts and communication.

"The sociology minor is a valuable course of study to business majors as well. Business students have the need to understand the culture, diversity and context of the people in their organizations, and the minor is a relevant and timely addition to the business world," added Jeremiah.

According to Rebecca Wardlow, education program director, "The opportunity for Ashford to offer a minor in child development is a natural complement to our newly launched Early Childhood Education programs. This minor will allow students the opportunity to learn about the growth and development patterns of young children."

Students graduating from AU with a minor or specialization in sociology will develop a sound understanding of the society we live in - individuals, families, communities, governments and cultures - from various perspectives. Likewise, students graduating from AU with a minor or specialization in child development will be academically prepared for work in early childhood education.
