CLINTON, Iowa

CLINTON, Iowa, March 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Ashford University (AU) has announced the introduction of a new history major and minor to its diverse portfolio of Bachelor of Arts degree program offerings.

Enrollment for this new 14 course/42 credit bachelor's degree program and 6 course/18 credit minor, began March 20, 2009. Classes for the major and the minor are being offered to AU students, both on campus and online, through AU's College of Arts and Sciences.

According to Dr. Curt Lowe, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences for AU, "The one constant in life is change. Studying history helps us to understand the social, political, and cultural forces that produce change - the same forces that continuously shape and reshape the world in which we live. The development of historical perspective shows us where things fit in the overall context of life."

"The establishment of both a history major and a minor is just another example of our efforts, as administrators, to improve our liberal arts and social sciences degree programs, and to provide accessible, innovative, high quality and in-demand academic programs for our students," added Dr. Lowe.

Graduates of the Bachelor of Arts degree program in history, and the minor in history, will be academically prepared for work in education, law, government, archeology and/or anthropology, in such careers as: lawyer, lawmaker, professor, international consultant, historian, public servant, social scientist and resource manager.
