Ashford University Science Fair Attracts Young Scientists
Winners named at Ashford Science Fair

Ashford University’s St. Francis Gymnasium was transformed into a science lab Saturday, April 24, as area students demonstrated experiments and explained their projects during Ashford’s first Science Fair.

Third through eighth graders were invited to display projects at the science fair sponsored by the Ashford University Mu Sigma Eta organization, and 18 students participated. “We were very pleased with the number of students participating in the event, considering it was only our first time to have a science fair,” said Dr. Sarah Gall, advisor to Mu Sigma Eta. “The students brought some great projects and it was interesting to hear them tell about them.”

Student winners were: first place: Eric Dunn, Camanche Elementary, wind-powered car; second place: Allie Cook, Camanche Elementary, quail eggs; third place (tie): Ryann Hubbart, Whittier Elementary, solar system and Riley Hubbart, Whittier Elementary, bridge construction; most useful: Porter Beland, Camanche Elementary, remote control retriever; most creative: Kendall Wright, Camanche Elementary, “doggie drop” and most knowledgeable: John Horne, Whittier Elementary, guinea pig.

Gall said the University is planning to have another science fair next spring.
