Ashford University Faculty Member Receives Teaching Excellence Award
Teaching Excellence Award Presented to Johnson at Conference

Grace Johnson, faculty member in Ashford University’s ASPIRE program, was recently selected as the recipient of the 2010 Excellence in Teaching Award by the Commission for Accelerated Programs (CAP). The award was presented to Johnson during the Ninth National Conference for Accelerated Programs in Higher Education on July 21-23 in Denver, CO.

Each year, CAP member institutions are invited to nominate faculty members who excel in facilitation of learning in an accelerated program.

Johnson earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in English, Language Arts and Library Science at Western Illinois University. She received her Master of Arts degree in English and Education with an emphasis in Curriculum and Supervision from the University of Iowa where she is a Ph.D. candidate studying Educational Administration, specializing in Educational Accreditation.   She has served as a facilitator in Ashford’s ASPIRE program for the past four years.

As a recipient of the award, Johnson was invited to be a panelist during “The Best Practices in Teaching” session at the CAP conference.

According to her nomination material, “Ms. Johnson is a dedicated, passionate, and real world facilitator and administrator who brings a love of learning and sharing to her classroom. She makes students feel part of the learning process with a flexibility that allows for adjustments to teaching style during the course of material delivery. She is caring, nurturing and serves as a mentor to her students. She is an exemplary model of living the mission of CAP on a daily basis. Ashford University students are fortunate to have a role model such as Grace to help mold them as future leaders in the world in which we work and live.”
