Boerne, Texas, Mother Receives Full-Tuition Scholarship to Ashford University
Geddes Chosen from More Than 46,000 Project Working Mom Applicants from Across the Country

Christina Geddes, a woman with a passion for helping others, has been awarded an Ashford University full-tuition scholarship as a part of Project Working Mom

To earn the scholarship, Geddes submitted an essay about her higher education aspirations. Her entry was selected out of more than 12,000 Ashford University applicants to the Project Working Mom scholarship program, developed by eLearners.com, a Web resource of EducationDynamics. Ashford University awarded 10 full-tuition scholarships.

Geddes, 26, who is embarking upon single parenthood as she sorts through a divorce, works at a staffing agency where she is constantly reviewing applications and resumes. Even in this staggering economy, she evaluates each candidate in hopes of finding employment for them. "Turning away a desperate job seeker is not something many can handle. What separates me from this is that I know I am helping many others," Geddes said.

"It is all about perspective. In every way, I see my role as someone who supports people. It's about identifying people's strengths, offering a chance and making people believe in hope."

In her essay, Geddes wrote, "I believe if I can get a better education and find a position that I can qualify for, my desire to help others will be magnified and put to good use. I can then be one of those people that helps change the world."

She is currently attending Ashford University to obtain dual bachelor's degrees in Social Science and English/Language Arts.

Ashford University is one of eight accredited online institutions donating more than 280 full-tuition scholarships worth nearly $5 million to the Project Working Mom campaign in 2010.
