Liberty, Mo., Mother Receives Full-Tuition Scholarship to Ashford University
Duncan Chosen from More Than 46,000 Project working Mom Applicants from Across the Country

Tiffany Duncan, a mother of two who juggles family, a full-time job and a part-time job, has been awarded an Ashford University full-tuition scholarship as a part of Project Working Mom

To earn the scholarship, Duncan submitted an essay about her higher education aspirations. Her entry was selected out of more than 12,000 Ashford University applicants to the Project Working Mom scholarship program, developed by eLearners.com, a Web resource of EducationDynamics. Ashford University awarded 10 full-tuition scholarships.

Duncan, 30, who had a penchant for Psychology when she began college, quit after her first semester when she gave birth to her first son. "I left high school with a drive to succeed," Duncan said. "After dropping out of college, I lost that momentum."

"I married my son's father and followed him out of state as he traveled with the Army. I started my career as a pharmacy technician while raising my son and carrying the load of the household while my husband was on duty, mission training or deployed. That stressful schedule, among many other things, tore our family apart and we separated. When my youngest son was about one, I started, and continue, to work at a local cancer center where patients go for chemotherapy rather than being admitted to the hospital. Working in this environment teaches me humility, fecundity and makes me appreciate the small things in life while recognizing that life is finite."

In her essay, Duncan wrote, "Since that sophomore class in high school, my goal has been to get my doctorate in Psychology and become a therapist. In every facet of my life, helping others has always been my passion. Busy is an understatement with regard to my life, but love is an understatement with regard to my devotion to Psychology and helping others."

She will be attending Ashford University to obtain a bachelor's degree in Psychology.

Ashford University is one of eight accredited online institutions donating more than 280 full-tuition scholarships worth nearly $5 million to the Project Working Mom campaign in 2010.
