Ashford University Receives American Red Cross Philanthropist Award

Ashford University recently received the Barb Faulkner Philanthropist of the Year Award from the Gateway Area Chapter of the American Red Cross for its broad support of the organization.

The award is presented to an individual or organization that has shown continuing support for our local chapter through both financial and personnel assistance.

“Ashford University is a deserving recipient of this award for consistent and continued support of our local chapter and the American Red Cross at the national level,” said Amber Wood, executive director, in presenting the award during the Chapter’s Volunteer Appreciation /Annual Meeting on April 20. “They have supported and recognized several employees who have served as board members, devoted time to leadership activities, and volunteered their services. Their on-going financial support of the chapter and its activities is noteworthy with its prominence as a part of their yearly community support budget.”

Three Ashford University employees, Jody Graham, Charlie Minnick and David Stedwell, currently serve on the Gateway Area Chapter’s Board of Directors.

“I'd like to personally note the additional support from Ashford and its students in furthering the mission of the American Red Cross and the work in the Gateway area,” Wood said.  “Students have really helped us to succeed in our ‘Run for the Red’ last fall and have continued though the design of many of our collateral marketing pieces used for our Luau and for the Volunteer Appreciation/Annual Meeting.”

The Philanthropist of the Year Award was renamed this year in memory of Barb Faulkner, who served on the Gateway Chapter’s Board of Directors.  Wood called her “a woman who gave selflessly of herself to the American Red Cross, throughout the community, and beyond.”
