Ashford University Prepares for Campus Diversity Week
Campus Diversity Week Features Many Activities at Ashford Campus

October 12-16 is “Campus Diversity Week” at Ashford University and, to celebrate, several special events have been planned. 

The Quad City Rough Riders will join AU staff, faculty and students for a wheelchair basketball game on Tuesday, Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. in the Durgin Educational Center’s Kehl Arena. The public is invited to the event and admission is free. 

Ashford University Disability Services Manager Poppy Fitch, said. “I’m excited about this high energy event which will increase awareness and appreciation of the unique contributions and abilities of all people.” 

Nick Marvin, who graduated from Mount St. Clare College in 2001, leads the Rough Riders, an organization that has been in existence since 1972.

The Academy Award nominated documentary film “Autism is a World,” written by college student Sue Rubin who experiences autism, will be shown at noon in the Student Center on Wednesday, Oct. 14; a discussion will follow. “Yung Blaze,” a live concert by AU Students Mike Relerford and Quentin Brackenridge, is set for Thursday, Oct. 15 at 8 p.m. in St. Francis Gymnasium. 

Concluding the weeklong celebration will be a “Black Lights” dance party at 9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 16 in the East Conference Room. Attire is black and white. 

Throughout the week, students can put their artwork, writing and photos which reflect their own experiences of diversity, on a “Diversity Rock(s)” expression wall in the Student Center.
