Ashford University Introduces Bachelor of Arts Degree in Journalism and Mass Communications

Ashford University has introduced a new Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism and Mass Communications.

The degree is part of a greater effort to provide programs for those students who are interested in the many fields related to journalism and mass communications. Students will develop the skills to become news analysts, directors, reporters, producers and more. They will also be given a foundation to enter into the fields of marketing, advertising and communications.

“Our innovative journalism program aims to prepare students for careers in a field that is rapidly changing due to the impact of communications technologies, while still embodying the principles of traditional journalism,” said Dr. Curt Lowe, dean of the College of Arts & Sciences for Ashford University.

“Students completing this degree program will be prepared to enter the evolving field of journalism with an understanding of convergence relative to the medium of mass communication,” added Dr. Jim Jeremiah, vice president of Academic Affairs for Ashford University. “The program will focus on global journalism, the new concept of convergence, and “citizen journalists” who contribute their real-time observations through the technologies of cell phone and internet video, email, blogs, microblogs, and many other modalities of instant communication,” The Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communications is currently available online at Ashford University. It does not include any additional professional licensures or certifications.
