In Honor of 9/11, Ashford University Expands its Military Grant and Establishes Surviving Spouses Scholarship and Posthumous Degrees
Increased beenfits provided to American soldiers, military families, supporters and survivors

To honor the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, and in recognition of the work they do to support our veterans, Ashford University is extending its military grant to Veterans Affairs (VA) employees. Members of the military community who are also eligible for the military grant include active duty service members, National Guard,  and reservists; spouses of active duty, National Guard, and reservists; students using VA education benefits; Department of Defense employees, and civilian employees of the US Coast Guard. In extending the military grant, Ashford continues to provide educational opportunities and services for those who defend our country, as well as for their families and the people who support them.

Ashford University, a Bridgepoint Education, Inc. (NYSE: BPI) academic institution, has deeply rooted relationships with U.S. servicemen and women. In an ongoing commitment to the military, the university makes regular efforts to support service members and those around them.

“In the wake of the 9/11 attacks, it was our men and women in uniform who received the call,” stated Doug Barling, senior director of Military Relations at Ashford. “Many sacrifices have been made along the way. Offering our support is a good place to start in expressing our thanks to not only those Americans who stand in harm’s way, but to those who directly support them.”

Alongside extended benefits already arranged for members of the military, ancillary personnel and qualifying family members, Ashford University has introduced the Surviving Spouses Scholarship. This new program will include free tuition, books and additional benefits for the spouses of fallen service members who attended the university within the previous year. Ashford University will also offer a process for awarding posthumous degrees to students who passed away prior to fulfilling their educational aspirations.
