The Downtown San Diego Partnership launched the Ashford University Innovation Series on March 27 with a panel discussion featuring four local cybersecurity experts. The event, held at the University Club in San Diego and sponsored by Ashford University, began with opening remarks from Ashford University Executive Dean Dr. Adam Selhorst.
The event focused on the theme of “Cybersecurity: The threat is real, but so is the opportunity.” The panelists included Bridgepoint Education Director of Information Security Richard McElroy, the City of San Diego’s Chief Information Security Officer Gary Hayslip, Vector Planning and Services General Manager Tony Nufer, and Naval Warfare Systems Command Executive Director Pat Sullivan. CyberUnited CEO Darin Andersen moderated the panel discussion.
“What sets San Diego apart from most other regions is our collaborative approach to addressing the challenges of cybersecurity,” said McElroy. “Knowledge and information-sharing is prevalent across most all sectors of our industries, which, coupled with our ability to attract well-qualified talent, is why San Diego is uniquely positioned to be a world leader in cybercrime prevention and response. We are also fortunate to have the support of organizations like the Downtown San Diego Partnership that are working to foster further growth in our region’s cybersecurity sector.”
