The National Guard Association of the United States (NGAUS) inducted Ashford University into the Legion de Lafayette on Saturday, Nov. 16.
The ceremony, which took place at NGAUS headquarters in Washington, D.C., recognized Ashford University’s $10,000 donation to the National Guard Educational Foundation. The contribution will support the National Guard Memorial Museum and help preserve the Guard’s 376-year history.
Gregory Hollister, division vice president in the department of defense and veterans affairs for Ashford University, attended the ceremony and received the Legion de Lafayette medal on behalf of the institution.
“We’re pleased to support a foundation whose educational programming honors the service of its citizen soldiers and airmen,” said Hollister. “As an institution of higher learning and a proud supporter of the National Guard, we are dedicated to the same mission of education.”
The medal presented to Ashford University resembles the regimental medal commissioned by the Seventh Regiment for presentation to the Marquis de Lafayette in 1832 and officially recognizes the University as a designated member of the Legion de Lafayette.
